I Spammer, NOT!

iScriblr_spam

Hey my pretty blogging family, hope y’all are having a wonderful day!

Well, things aren’t as rosy this side! *sad face*

It started off pretty innocently though – I was minding my own business (as usual), reading blogs that I love and making my “traditionally typical” lovey-dovey, appreciative comments, only to find that most (if not all) of my comments were vanishing in thin air, no trace, no remains! *straight outta a Stephen King novel kinds*

This got me into thinking (believe me, that doesn’t happen too often!) and post devoting a couple of hours on Google and various WordPress/Akismet forums I found out that – “Sometimes commenting quickly can mimic the behavior of a spam-bot, which leads to our comments being marked as spam. To help avoid this happening in the future, we may want to slow down the rate at which we are submitting comments.” *yeah, go figure*

To be honest, I wonder how in the world could this happen? I mean, how could I have exceeded the comment speed limit, I have no idea? (Guess, my typing speed has gotten better with time!) But this seems to be the probable reason as to why “OUR” comments are disappearing and our “love” for each other is wordlessly lodging somewhere in the spam folder, masked, eclipsed!

So folks, between the “get yourself a wig” advertisements, a few “Viagra for men” broadcasts and “how to lose weight in 7 days” declarations in your SPAM FOLDER – you might find one of my “un-malicious” comments, waiting to be embraced! *I spammer, NOT*

And yes, let my experience act as a warning for y’all – Don’t exceed the comment speed limit unless you WANT to end up like me! *sorry state of affairs*

Here’s to hoping that my comments see the light of a new day! Cheers!

Love,

        1. Had a chat with WordPress.org and Akismet folks – and “not commenting too quickly on posts” is the solution they’ve been throwing for a while now.

          Oh yes, absolutely!! #shareAway 🙂

    1. No babes, no speed limit specified by them and neither I could find anything concrete online! 😕
So I am gonna wait and watch and may be try and limit my comments to up to 10 per hour kinds! Lets see!

  1. Wow – thanks for mentioning this. I went and checked my spam folder and while you didn’t have anything there, I did find a comment from someone else that shouldn’t have gone there. It’s probably a good idea for me to check it every now and again, I guess.

    1. Ikr.. I am glad you were able to retrieve the “good-turned-spam” comment.

Yes, I really do recommend checking our spam folder occasionally to avoid any confusion and slip.

    1. I know.. It’s kinda sad! 🙁

PS – Let your followers know to check out their spam occasionally so that your comment is approved.

  2. Don’t worry Richa believe or nor it has happened with me twice in past few months. If you contact the Akismet support center they will fix it for you in few days. If you need anymore help with it pm me and I’ll let you know the solution. and I always keep an eye on the spam folder.

  3. I had some really weird comments in my spam folder about online casino gambling on a blog I wrote called “Back to the Mines,” some were also off color and kind of strange, so I blocked the person. I read many spy novels, so I thought someone had found a way to send a message for some illegal thing through the blog. Maybe I think too much or don’t understand spam.

    1. Spam seriously can be confusing!🙄

What I feel is that “spammers” as such, are just looking for your online info/e-mail id to “spam” you with advertisements and all – But you never know! It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

      1. Well, you know my husband was an intelligence analyst with the Army, so he was the one who suggested it! I really had some weird things in my spam folder.

          1. And plus I never, never, never click on a link that I do not recognize! Be it in my spam folder or anywhere else. As i said earlier, its better to be safe than being sorry!

    1. Frustrating for sure!🙄

About me – My posts are just fine, but it’s my “comments” on other people’s blogs that are segregating in the spam folder!
Sending an E-mail to the support team again!

  4. I guess being a natural writer even when I’m commenting like giving the entire history of Western Civilization before I finally get around to the point I was trying to make, I’m not considered spam since it’s a while before I hit the post button.

    1. Haha.. That’s an interesting take on this!😁

Looks like I will have to find out a way of un-spamming my comments – one way or another!🙋

  5. That is so weird! WordPress should really find a new way to find a spammer. XD Is that why I kept finding your comments in my spam? That is so unfair! Sorry that this is happening.

    1. Ikr! It’s really frustrating!🙄

Here’s to hoping that I get a solution soon! Till then, keep a check on your spam!😉

  6. Yeah, it’s happen to me too. I also do a daily prompt with a group and I watch the spam folder because every time something is in there, it is a link to somebody’s poem and not a spam. Their spam detector is not good. That’s why under “settings”, then “discussions”, I tell folks to select “Akismet anti-spam strictness” as “Safe: always put spam in the Spam folder for review. ” The other one “Strict: silently discard the worst and most pervasive spam. ” means it throws away the comment and you never know it. So your friends/followers comments can get lost. At least putting it in the spam folder means you can fish it out if it’s a real person. Even though it does catch a lot of spam, I think it is a bad robot to throw away people’s real comments. I moderate all my comments and have anti-spam turned off because I don’t trust it. But I am not famous so I can handle my comments. Someone who gets tons of comments probably can’t moderate everything.

    1. Thank you so much for your advise. I shall look into the steps and try and out out a solution for myself.

I really appreciate your kindness and support! Thanks a bunch!❤

  7. There are so many REAL spammers out there who LIKEs multiple posts in just a couple seconds (obviously they can’t read so fast) and then there are genuine people like you whose comments get end up in the spam folder. WP should a find new ways to identify the spammers. Seriously.

    1. Ikr! Neither did I and hence!🙄
But this is not going to stop me from doing what I want/like – spam or not! Lol..🤫

  8. Sorry you’ve been hit with this. I have had it happen to me too and it’s not much fun to not be able to say something when you want to. I’ve learned though to try to always keep an eye on my spam folder to keep those out of it that shouldn’t be there.

    1. You are so right – exactly my thoughts too! It’s so inhibiting!🙄

I just hope that WP figures something out soon so that I can exercise my “right of speech”😛 😉
      #fingersCrossed

  9. Yes, l think l have been hit by this also. You may recall when we joked that hic hic, that l thought l had replied to a post of yours and then it disappeared, we naturally assumed l was drunk lol! but l learned only yesterday about too many comments hit the spam folders.

My head trying to get to grips with this is … we are to write and comment very little on anothers’ work, in case we are assumed to be a bot, we are to write and not answer too fast in case we are assumed to be a bot.

Maybe, we are NOT to comment on anything, then we are just boring lmao!

    1. Hahahaha.. IKR!!!! To comment or to not comment – that is the question!🙊

WordPress needs a better bot seggregating the fakes!🙄

  10. Oh my that’s sad I think it’s happened to me twice but I didn’t give it that much thought.

    Thanks for posting this Richa.❤️

I’ll slow my ninja keyboarding ways from now on 🙂

  11. Yeah, I know how you feel about the “Poof” “Gone” the Spamifier gets me too. A lot more in recent months than earlier in my blogging days. I’m always checking to make sure I’m not ignoring other bloggers. I would never want to hurt someone else’s feelings without acknowledging their comments. 🙂

    1. Thank you for your support and kind words – appreciate it a lot!❤

Exactly! That’s how I feel too and hence – I often check my spam folder to make sure that I am not missing on anybody’s comments.

  12. Yup, that sounds about right! I have been recently having this problem myself! I didn’t know that there was a speed limit!! I don’t have TIME to slow down!! Don’t you KNOW THAT WordPress?? 😕

  13. I just figured it was because your site just doesn’t want you to see what O have to say 😳 But I think we got that taken care of? Maybe? 😬

      1. Aww! That really means a lot! 😊I’m not even kidding😍 Same goes here. I am where if I don’t see a like from you, I think you weren’t fond of the photo. 🤯 That doesn’t mean I want you or anyone to feel like they have to, at all! Oh and by the way, I just found 3 of your comments in my spam! 😕 So if it came across as rude, I had no idea that they were there. 😘💗

        1. Awwwwwww.. You are the best!😊
Tbh, I love, love all your photos and posts – they indeed have an interesting veiw point and twist!❤️

Ah, spam-alert! Been struggling with it for a while now!🙄

          1. I dug into it a little bit and I found that if you are using a VPN, it is a more likely that your comments will go to spam because your computer does not recognize the IP address and vice versa. 🤓

  14. I’ve actually had a few comments end up in spam before and I didn’t realize it until almost a week later as I was authorizing some other comments.
